TRASH CATS

OF

MIAMI BEACH

A poetry collection

inspired by T.S. Eliot

and the fanciful felines

of Miami Beach

I moved to Miami Beach not knowing anyone other than my significant other and our two NYC rescue cats. I had no idea what I would be doing in South Florida, but I knew I needed a departure from my former opera singer life.

I was delighted to find out that Miami Beach was populated with semi-feral, semi-friendly cat colonies, descendants of the original cats released in the early 1900s to combat an aggressive rat infestation. It wasn't long before I befriended those brave felines who hung out around my apartment.

So began Trash Cats, a collaboration between street photography (by Andris Dzeguze) and poetry (by me). I hope to expand this project further and continue documenting the complex lives and quirky personalities of stray cats all over the world.
